About book Crossing Stars (2014)

Nicole Williams is always a way to go for me! She has a fantastic writing style and creative ideas, but what i truly love are her couples. The characters always sexy, strong and mysterious but with so much sweetness and love underneath, but also their chemistry, their bond and their loyalty to each other! She never fails to deliver! Crossing Stars is a little gem based on Romeo and Juliet, but in a mafia modern style! A sweet, romantic and thrilling read which deserved to be longer in my opinion! I would have loved to see how they coped and a glimpse of their life together! But it is still wonderful the way it is! I loved it! Voila! It seems like i am falling into some universally conspired Shakespearean trap for reading three books in a row inspired by one of the greatest writer in history. *bow* The closest thing that could get me to sincerely appreciate classics is when it’s told or presented with a touch of modern, and this book as well as the others i’ve enjoyably read that was written recently sails me to that direction. Who knows, i might be curious enough to become an ancient history geek someday. As i was saying, this book is inspired by the famous star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet minus the tragic ending, which is a favorable variation to that story might i add. Given the interesting premise (forbidden love), there is also something unique about Nicole Williams’ way of narrating a story that sucks you into it on the first few pages, the same way that i remembered about her Crash series. It wasn’t adrenaline pumping and i may have predicted mostly what would happen except for the ending part, so maybe it’s because of the uncomplicated yet passionate writing. Or maybe because it feels like i’m listening to a close friend tell me a story instead of reading it by myself. I loved it because despite the mayhem involved, she did not make me run for the hills.Warning though, this book involves A LOT of cheesy exchange of words that will either make you puke or melt your panties. I chose the latter, because that’s most acceptable in the world of fiction. I also know how instant-love gets to your nerve, but because i clearly understood that this has a close association with Romeo & Juliet, it was non-debatable.Josette’s life was close to non-existent, she lived in the confines of her family’s mansion with a personal guard to watch her every step. She’s the dutiful daughter of the Italian Mafia’s boss, arranged to marry the leader of his father’s counterpart from the West. But her sheltered life was suddenly shaken during one sneaky night when she and her cousin Serena crossed The Line to give her a dose of ‘living the life’, meeting the Irish man who saved them from the Moran’s cruel hands - Rylan. It wasn’t just an attraction, it was a fatal attraction.Rylan is the man responsible for the overflowing cheesiness in this book, and maybe i’m feeling a little bit cheesy to easily get the hang of it. At times i felt like i wasn’t reading about an in-love 22 year-old because he acted more mature than his age, uttering words too poetic and plotting plans for his & Josette’s future with precision. He was terribly aggressive but a romantic gentleman nevertheless. The tragedy of what they were forced to do for their freedom from the brutal rivalry of their families is something i would hope not to happen in reality, but in this book it sounded almost quintessential. As much as i’d like to hear about the perpetuation of their happy ending, this time i’d choose to have it just the way it concluded with them having their most coveted peace and freedom. Sometimes, you gotta leave things the way it just is, no need for more.D x
