About book Cormorant (2014)

The word "hisses" 17 times. Used too many times in Mockingbird too. Although this time it didn't always describe how someone said something: "no she hissed". Kept track just out of curiosity. (And to sorta be an a-hole) "growl" 13 times. Don't recall this one being a distraction in previous books. "Hissing" drove me nuts in book 2. "Heady" bunch of times too. This book is still awesome. Liked each book better than the previous in this series. Where are you Thunderbird!?! I feel like it's hard to come up with more good things to say about this series without repeating myself. The Cormorant continues Miriam's adventures with scalpel-sharp prose and a time-jumping plot that ratchets its tension well. The Cormorant really does feel like more of the same--but in a good way.As usual, Miriam is the star of the show. All the characters and/or entities that Wendig has generated to support her are intriguing, but Miriam is such a bombastic force there are times when it feels like they're just trying to play keep up. For those readers who've been with Miriam from the beginning, we've now traveled near the core of her nicotine-stained psyche and the trip is one strange and rewarding ride. The Cormorant brought the plot back to a more central series arc, and although the novel stands on its own, it would be buttressed by having read earlier books, particularly Blackbirds. Being one of those readers that had read the first entry, Cormorant felt epic and weighty. Wendig has done a nice job elevating the game of his antagonists so Miriam earns every inch she gets. A blemish on the shining achievement The Cormorant is that by the time this time-hopping plot builds to its crescendo, while that climax feels earned, it also felt a bit telegraphed and expected in a way that made it less satisfying. A small nit, but there you go.Wendig has done a great job with this series--telling it together and separately. I'm not sure The Cormorant added any new wonder to the series, but then I'm not sure it had to. For those jumping in here, if you can keep up, the wonder of the first two will be new to you. The weight of what came before for return readers is certainly enough to carry you through this whip-sizzle of a story (which will feel like a continuation). Recommended for those who like a fast, meaty thriller with a supernatural twist and, of course, anyone who enjoyed the first two in the series. The Cormorant keeps the bar of the series high as a read full of flavor and hardly an ounce of fat.

Do You like book Cormorant (2014)?

The Miriam Black series is fun, bloody, and profane and continues to improve with each book.

It was okay, not as good as the first two. I still like the character though.
