Thank god I bought the box set of these because after reading book 1 (this one), I was able to dive straight into book 2. #GayVictorianFantasy is my new favourite hashtag! This includes KJ Charles and Sarah Monette for me, and I'd be very grateful for any other references you have to share with me.So I love the subject matter, but I also love the way Hawk has told this tale. It is well paced, filled with wonderful quirky characters, beautifully written, has a page turning plot and a heartfelt love story. Can't wait to read the rest of them! This book really surprised me. I enjoyed it very much. The historical setting felt very real. And the description of Whyborne is perfect in every way. Reading his thoughts you actually feel his awkwardness end shyness. Yet he is very brave…even in the face of the supernatural. I did not know if I would actually like the mix of historical setting and supernatural occurrences, but it works wonderful.Because we only get Whyborne’s perspective in this book, I don’t know what to make of Griffin just yet. Will see how there relationship grows in the next books. I am definitely looking forward to reading more about these two men and there adventures.
