About book Confessions Of A Sociopath: A Life Spent Hiding In Plain Sight (2013)

Okay she was nicer than I thought. The book initially takes on a chilly feel. I found myself scared stiff the first chapter in, wondering about my neighbors and the 4% of the population who could be sociopaths. I started identifying every odd person in my life as one. I questioned figures in my family. I questioned myself. This book will make you do that. Psychology students will love it. It is not all gloom and doom though. Sociopaths can be nice, whether or not they realize it. M.E Thomas seems like a really nice woman. She just does not feel bad when bad things happen. She talks a lot about her childhood. That strange father of hers. The pedophile she had for a teacher. Her vindictive nature at times seems justified. You get to see young M.E, a vulnerable girl that some might identify with. She lets you in on how she got to the place she is now in her adult life, with many accomplishments. I credit her for taking such sincere efforts in writing this book. It is not relishing or self-loathing. It is quite simple. I found it an easy read. Not too boring. But some stuff felt rushed. Scenes are developed and abandoned. She would get into an interesting topic and before you blink twice it is over, POOF. Done. Get a dictionary ready. With this book you will learn new words and things about human nature. A good combo if I shall say so myself. 3 out of 5 stars. In the end it could have been more interesting, but I still enjoyed it. I'm at the 30% mark as I type this. I might end up skimming the rest of it. It's interesting to read a book by someone who claims to be a sociopath. Like a lot of other reviewers the whole "I am so much smarter, better looking, awesome than everyone else" kinda makes my eyes roll. We're only getting how she is from her point of view. I'd really like to see how others perceive her or if she's really as awesome as she thinks she is. I've read websites doxxing who she possibly is. If the website is correct, she is rather attractive. So, there's that. I wonder if her family-friends-co-workers-students-whatever have read her book. (Okay and granted I don't know much about sociopathy or psychopathy. I'm not in the psychiatric field-other than being a patient.)Update: I did end up skimming. I found her kinda insufferable and tiring...at least her repetitive-ness was.

I listened to this as an audio book. Near the beginning, I felt like it was so boring I wasn't going to continue listening to it. I saw some reviewers state that they did not believe this book to be "real". They believed this was a work of fiction attempting to be passed off as nonfiction. My personal opinion is that this is nonfiction. I have known a couple of people who hurt me, and I have long suspected that they may have "mental problems similar to sociopathy or psychopathy". When I tell people about this part of my past, they seem shocked. It's like they don't believe that is possible, but why wouldn't it be possible?I understand why someone thinking that this account is false. It is quite a hollow telling of a story, which is exactly why I believe it is true.

Apparently, being a sociopath means contradicting yourself often.

Repetitive, but very enlightening. Definitely worth a read.
—shorterthan

A dull overinflated book written by a vile human being.
