About book Confessions From An Arranged Marriage (2012)

As a politics major, I was so very excited to read about Minerva. I anticipated her romance ever since Celia's story. We seemed to share same ambitions, the very same itchings. However, our similarity ended there, or so I hope. I wanted to throw the bok and beat it badly, and I would have if Blakeney hadn't redeemed the book. But I couldn't finished the book - left it at chapter twentysomething. How can you love someone who doesn't respect you, scowls when you're talking about your favorite hobbies but would tire you with long speeches you don't give a damn about, would cross the line and throw most cutting insults?I just couldn't stand how Blakeney withstood contempt his closes family members and especially Minerva threw at him. Something like that eats away one's self esteem. It's never healthy for your relationship. Blakeney should be angrier, but no, he's so blinded by love and already beaten down by his parents and tutors that he just swallows it. Minerva maybe smart, but she is only bookish smart, which is never a recommending characteristics who wants to join the political scene instead of simply observing it. She's miserable at reading the undercurrents and the people, especially one she claims to treasure. At the field where a misplaced word can destroy everything, she doesn't even realize what her disparaging words can mean to Blakeney. Yes, she's young, I grant that. You can be narrow minded, think you are on the top of the word, dismiss people different from you as inferiors. But I hate that author glosses over her disgusting treatment of Blake. Maybe within the leftover ten chapters she manages to redeem the situation, but until now, I don't see Minerva truly repenting her cruel words or Blakeney being really angry for that. Relationship like that is insiduous.
