About book Concubine (2010)

I liked the self reflection and personal understanding that Kael has in this book. I wish it had been expanded upon a little more. With the smattering of "smartness" in the plot at the end, I felt that the author had the capability of making this plot so much more than it was. It's one thing to write a lot of smut and a little plot if that is all your capable of. But this author showed in little trading hints that she's capable of so much more. I hope she will continue to expand her writing and weave her plots with more intricacies. I think she's got the stuff to do it. As for these characters, it just didn't settle right to me. I didn't feel like I went through Kael coming to terms with his circumstances at the same pace he did. I would have liked to see his struggle fleshed out a bit. Even though this has some BDSM elements it is not at all as brutal as some I have read in that genre. In fact it is a lovely little fantasy story that I wish had been a lot longer. I loved the characters and the romance between Kael and Taren was beautifully written. There was a nice subplot with a little intrigue and action too. So overall it hit all the right spots for an enjoyable short read and I would recommend it if you have a few hours to fill.
