About book Colorblind (2013)

4 stars. This paranormal historical novel set in 1851 Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was a gem of a find for one who has read tons of 'traditional' historical novels. The author told a great love story via the protagonists, Leon Arnaud a plantation owning abolitionist werewolf and Penny a field slave and werewolf. I hope the author will write more stories featuring these brothers: Armand Arnaud and Etienne Arnaud with Jolie. First I need to say that I did not mean to pick this type of book to read. I have never been a fan of paranormal. Well Violette Dubrinsky, has made me eat my words. Never say never. This book was so good. Leon, a French werewolf, who has wealth and connections arrives in Louisiana with one purpose: to free as many slaves as he can. During his mission he finds not only slaves but one of his own kind – Penny, who is a southern slave and a werewolf. The story takes place in the year of 1851.Once Leon meets her, he teaches her how to control her bodies, both werewolf and human. Leon also teaches Penny how to use her powers. The attraction between Leon and Penny is undeniable and grows strongly. The storyline in this book was excellent. Colorblind takes you back in history with a story of epic love with a twist of paranormal. The descriptions of the plantation and the description of how the slaves were treated was written well and detailed. There are parts that I didn’t want to read ( whipping of slave), but it is history and did happen. The storyline tells of the good and the bad. The story line has a excellent mixture of history and erotica, and the plot was great. The characters are well rounded, developed and believable.Colorblind is a tale of love in adversity, of two souls defying the odds to be together. A love story between two wolves that were under some strained circumstances. The author did an excellent job in capturing the time period of slavery. If you are a fan of paranormal, which I think I now am (smile), you will love this book.Thank you Author Violette Dubrinsky for a wonderful, well-written story.-Reviewed by Barbara
