About book Collision Low Crossers: A Year Inside The Turbulent World Of NFL Football (2013)

This book started off great, but really lost its steam. By about halfway through it felt like someone just recounting a bunch of minor incidences of male bonding. The author also seemed to be a little too fond of all his sources. The portraits of the main characters, like Revis, Ryan, and Pettine were interesting, if a bit fawning. Then again, given that all my hopes and dreams now rest on Pettine I am happy to learn that he's a genius who will work ridiculously hard, and also an all around good guy. Very good look inside an NFL team for a season. The author tells the story though the eyes of the coaches and a few players. The most revelatory things about the book is how hard the coaches work and how the demands on the work make any kind of family life difficult. Although there was no talk of the salaries of the players or coaches what did come through is the passion for the game and community the game engenders.
