About book Coldhearted (2009)

The story was nicely put together and the writing was decent, except... a few chapters in these people who are business professionals, police, detectives, a senator's wife... out of nowhere everyone starts saying Y'all. Its a bit disconcerting, because up to this point everyone talks normally, then this twang shows up and sticks around for the rest of the story.I would have rated it a 4 if not for the attack of Y'all, or even if it had just stuck to the characters that would have made sense.. but it was just a little bit discordant, an unwelcome distraction from an otherwise good book.On another note, Apparently this was part of a larger series and you don't need to be aware of that to enjoy the story. There is one side plot that seems to be a setup for someone else's tale, but it doen't distract (any more than y'all, anyhow). It just illustrates how Griffin is mysterious, but thats fine since Rick and Jordan are actually what this one is all about.I may pick up the others later, but likely not unless I happen to find them on sale or at the second hand store. This was the 5th book in the Griffin Powell series. It begins with the death of Senator Dan Price. This book is filled with unexpected twists as Powell Agent Rick Carson investigates in Senator Price's current wife's past.I really enjoyed this book. The entire time I felt this huge sense of foreboding wherever Jordan Harris Brannon Price was concerned. Barton has an amazing way of telling a story and she also has a way of reeling you in within the first 40 or so pages. The characters were deeply flawed, which is always good. Unflawed characters are pretty much impossible to relate to and typically boring. Jordan Price was really intriguing to me, she seemed like a troubled person, with an even more troubled past and I was really hoping to find out if she was the person behind it all. Rick Carson was also an interesting character because he came off as this tough guy who didn't need anybody. When in reality he was just as needy as everyone else, just he was.. better at hiding it. This book is in the Griffin Powell series, although he wasn't a strong character in this novel. What I mean by that is, he wasn't really a main character, he wasn't included in every aspect of the story; only once and a while. Even still, this book was amazing!
