I'm not sure I can legitimately rate this book- don't worry, I did- mostly because I wasn't even able to get halfway through it. Now while I have read better written fiction than this book, in all honesty, I have also read worse- much worse- and have liked those even more.Why, you ask?BECAUSE I WANT TO PUNCH our heroine, BRONTE (Oh yes, you read that correctly, Bronte- her FIRST NAME IS BRONTE!) IN THE FACE.Why? Well..Her name is Bronte but people call her Bron. This isn't necessarily a problem- people name their characters all types of weird names- but I kept reading it as Bron, like Bron-Bron, like Lebron, you know James, the basketball god? Which, isn't so conducive to the romance bit...whoops! This isn't the author's fault, however, it did keep me from really being able to read this seriously- not that I could have anyway...The first time that I REALLY wanted to punch Bronte in the face was when she lamented about how gorgeously skinny she was, and how all she eats are Grape nuts and tuna with dijon mustard. Now, anorexia is a serious illness, and if an author wants to go down that route, that is fine, make sure you can portray it- but not this book. This book was more of a "boohoo, I'm so gorgeous and thin." Her worrying about her thinness was used as a prop to let the reader know that Bronte was SUPER GORGEOUS, AND THIN, AND ALL THE MEN WANT HER (Hubba. Hubba.)- at least that is how I understood it- please, someone correct me if I am wrong- seriously, as I said, I didn't finish.BUT WAIT, GUYS! DON'T WORRY! BRONTE IS EATING THE BUCKWHEAT PANCAKES! THAT SHOULD GET HER INTO FIGHTING SHAPE INTO NO TIME- though what she is fighting I am not really sure...British Royalty, I guess...Anyway- boohoo- Max, his life is so difficult. He is inline to be a Duke and all he wants to do is get his PHD in Economics- which, btw HE IS DOING...so stop complaining. Other things that REALLY upset mer was the authors portrayal of romance literature and feminism. That somehow Gloria Steinem would be ashamed (or could give a rats ass) that Bronte was reading all this chic-lit.1- Your book is chic-lit...so....2- I'm not sure you understand feminism- equal rights and all the jazz- and oh yes: THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WITHIN THE LAW- like oh hey, today I feel like reading some chic-lit AND I WILL NOT FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT. Why? BECAUSE I WANT TO. Does that make you a bad person? Nope. Did women march on Washington for this? YUP! You know how I know- BECAUSE YOU CAN GO BUY THE BOOK YOURSELF AND NOT HAVE A MAN DO IT! YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO DO THE THINGS YOU WANT- and if it is more of a (I hate this word) "traditional" type of book...THAT IS FINE, AS LONG AS YOU WANT TO DO IT AND NO ONE IS FORCING YOU!As you can see- I don't really like my books making me feel ashamed about my reading habits.So, all in all, I didn't really enjoy this- I shall be returning it to the library post haste and will not be finishing it/I did peek at the ending... Kept me entertained during slow graveyard shifts, but I can't give this book 4 stars. Lots of language. Not that that bothers me, but I like to warn others :) I just felt like there were all these issues that were played up like they were going to be huge, and then the solution to them ended up being so easy. Like that his sister was awful, but then really she's not. And his mother will never accept her, but then she doesn't put up a fight. And her dad was horrible, but maybe he really wasn't. Gag! Got annoying after a while, and I ended up getting annoyed with the main character by the end.
Do You like book Cómo Ligar Con Un Duque (2013)?
A fun read but one that will be easily forgotten. I like to call it "mind candy ".
