About book Click, Clack, Boo!: A Tricky Treat (2013)
Farmer Brown is not a fan of Halloween. In his opinion, Halloween is just too spooky. He participates by leaving a bowl of candy on his porch, but locks his doors and heads off to bed when the noises are too scary. On the other hand, in the barn, the animal’s Halloween party is in full swing! Farmer Brown doesn’t realize that the animals have a trick that will be sure to treat! Cronin and Lewin never disappoint with their humorous style that seems to bring the animals to life. The illustrations in Click, Clack, Boo are appealing to both the younger and older audience because they are fun, but not scary. The spooky barnyard tale will be a hit, without haunting, during Halloween. In this book, the farm animals from "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type" are back. This time, they are having a halloween party in the barn and the farmer is hearing all types of noises from the barn. The farmer finally gets out of bed to look through the window and find the animals having their halloween party in the barn. This could be connected to the curriculum during the holidays, and it could also be used during lessons on onomatopoeias. I personally am a fan of this whole series, and I love that there is a seasonal book in the series. The visuals are appealing in this book because they are colorful and the same style as all the books in the series, bringing a sense of familiarity with the animals and the farmer. The intended audience for this book is an elementary aged student and I believe it could be used from PreK up to 5th grade, of course with modified lessons for the extreme grades.
