About book Claws That Catch (2008)

This is Book 4 in the series, and while the writing quality holds up, I found it on the whole less suspenseful. Too much time was spent on setup in the beginning, and the whole musical subplot, while useful to me personally in expanding my CD collection, seemed a little far-fetched, even for a sci-fi story. It was, however, a satisfying conclusion to the series, so I did enjoy it and would recommend the series as a whole. Good fun. I haven't read the first books in the series (but this entry sums them up nicely, so I don't really have to). I enjoyed the humor and military action in the story, which made up for the rather large suspensions of disbelief. Giving the characters and ship some unusual foibles makes the book better than the stereotypical space-navy books. Normally, in novels I have issues with alien races that are too human in motivation and thought-process. However, in this case, the plot was enjoyable enough that I didn't mind the portrayals of the Adar and Hexosehr.
