About book Cirque Du Freak, Vol. 1 (2009)

Audience: ages 12 and upDarren loves spiders and Steve loves monsters so when the best friends get a flyer advertising a "Cirque du Freak" show in their town they cannot resist the temptation to see the production. Little do the boys know that the show will change their lives forever.Cirque du Freak mixes horror with a story about friendship and growing up to create a vampire story quite different from others in the popular genre. Arai's artwork is full of expression and successfully propels the action of the story forward while simultaneously showing Darren's internal struggle. Volume One sets up the series with bold intensity that will have readers eagerly craving the next story. This graphic adaptation of the popular horror novel is recommended as a supplemental purchase for libraries serving teens. 1. My favourite character is Darren Shan, he is also the main character of the book. I find Darren Shan interesting because he goes through a massive change in life from being a normal ordinary boy with a normal happy family to a half vampire and as a result he had to fake his death. As he doesn’t age as he naturally should, he is stuck as a child and he was too dangerous to be around his family. As he goes through changes he develops new abilities like running as fast as the wind and is much stronger than any other ordinary human. But since he is half a vampire, he only gains half the abilities which is the down side but he is still able to move around in the daylight unlike a full blooded vampire.2. The most interesting part I found in the book is when he started using his new vampire abilities to his advantage, just like when he was playing soccer with his friends he realized he was much faster than before and could score easy goals without breaking a sweat! He was physically perfect but then people began to get suspicious since you can’t get that good in soccer all of a sudden, he was like a superhuman on the field. So he had to leave his friends, leave his home because he knew this place was no place for a vampire.7. I would recommend this book to others because it makes you think what it would be like if you were a vampire or a super natural and what it would feel like to be on your own. It’s a good book that lets you use your imagination and drift off into another world were vampires, werewolves, and where everything else unreal occurs.

Do You like book Cirque Du Freak, Vol. 1 (2009)?

I have to say, the graphic novel was almost as good as the actual book. I borrowed this from the library out of my love for the first one - and I was very curious to see how I would like the graphic novel! The artist did an amazing job at illustrating - seriously! It was like the character's emotions were leaping off the page at you! I thought the way that all the characters were drawn was perfect, exactly how I imagined them. Even if you had not read the book, you easily could have followed the story. I have not read many graphic novels before but I have read a couple where I completely lost the story. There were bits where the drawing didn't really cover what was going on, leaving me like huh? But this one was super easy to follow and still engrossing.I literally can not find fault with this story - hence the five star rating! It was also super quick to read, I did not expect to get through it as quick as I did. It could probably easily be read in one sitting. One little bit at the end that I really liked was the little afterword/ish book by the illustrator. It made me laugh! Definitely recommend this! If you have read the first book by Daren Shan, you should have a read of this. Can not stress enough how much I would advise this! Even if you have not read the book I would still recommend this. Though I would advise reading the novel first. Just a suggestion though it does not really matter.
