About book Chocolate Covered Murder (2012)

The Lucy Stone series is a cozy series. The story is good and the mystery is too, but the action drags a bit. However, I don't really mind reading about Lucy's job as a part-time reporter and about the various activities going on in the small Maine town of Tinker's Cove where she lives with her husband and two teenaged daughters. If you like a good cozy mystery, this is the series for you. However, if you like non-stop action and heavy drama, try another series. In this story, Valentine's Day is approaching and there are various contests and activities. A new chocolatier has moved into town and is competing with the comfortable old shop that has been in town since the 1950s and is run by a family of 4 generations of women. The women of Tinker's Cove are unhappy with the clerk at the new shop, Tamzin Graves, a sexy woman who tries to romance all of their husbands. But when Tamzin turns up dead in the chocolate store, her naked body covered in chocolate, Lucy suspects that there is more going on in Tinker's Cove. The clues are nicely sprinkled throughout the story and the action, when it comes, is satisfactory. Even though this was Lucy Stone mystery #18, it was my first to read. (Actually I listened to it while on a road trip.) I enjoyed the characters and story line but I wish Lucy had a little more backbone with her boss. Maybe I missed the development of this relationship from prior books but it just seemed she didn't stand up to him much when he was giving out assignments etc. I will have no hesitation reading another Lucy Stone mystery!
