WARNING! possible spoiler........I didn't enjoy this book quite as much as the other 3 in the series, mainly because of the ending. If I'd realised that this wasn't the end of the story, then I'd probably view the end of the book differently. As somebody else has already observed, this is really a 7 book series, but I didn't know this, and I didn't want to commit to another long series of books in the same universe at this point. I have so many other books waiting for my time. Don't get me wrong though. This is still a cracking read. I just wish it had concluded.
OK, the beginning was as good as the rest of the series but...SHIT ENDING! It showed promise, and then sortof floundered about, clumsily tied off some loose ends, and then set up for a sequel series. I found the twisty ending predictable from a way off, and the bit that wasn't predictable was just lame and convenient! Ugh.The characters seemed completely irrational in their actions at the very end. I'm disappointed and a bit turned off Ian Irvine now. I don't think I'll be giving Song of the Tears a chance any time soon.
