About book Cheerful Money: Me, My Family, And The Last Days Of Wasp Splendor (2009)

Parts of this book of a very WASPy family were touching, but I found little cheerful about it. (Perhaps because, by their standards there wasn't much money? Frankly, if my family had had $47,000 net worth inherited in 1964 we'd been laughing our heads off. But I obviously don't have WASP mentality.)The best part of the book? The stories of his ancestors. The convoluted family ties kept me flipping back and forth from text to the chart of the family tree. But then I enjoy genealogy. I love "Cooking for Mr. Latte" and anything involving Amanda Hesser, so I had high hopes for her husband's book. I found the historical information compelling and interesting. A glimpse into a life I'll never experience or touch. I found the autobiographical elements to be less interesting, which surprised, and disappointed, me. Overall an OK read that furthered my depth of Hesser knowledge, but not terribly interesting as a stand alone work. Sad.

Do You like book Cheerful Money: Me, My Family, And The Last Days Of Wasp Splendor (2009)?

Really enjoyable, easy read. I liked Tad's writing. It was as crisp as a Wasp white collard shirt.

This book did not live up to its reputation. I found the narrative disjointed and confusing.

Loved this book, perhaps out of perverse shanty Irish curiosity...but it was a great read!

Swat the Wasp! Interesting book, well-written.
