Found this book by happenstance and a happy find it was. It's been a long time since I've been so engaged in such a rich and detailed world as the one created by McPhail. One of the things that tickled me as I read through the book was the homage, given two decades of wonderful creations by other fantasy authors, in the use of their characters names in new and interesting ways. It was a wonderful inside joke that pleased me to no end. This is the story of two royal brothers, two Kingdom Blades, with destinies that take them out of their lives and into adventures that span worlds, nations, transcends politics and has its roots in the most basic of all morality tales: the battle of darkness and light. I loved the cast of characters and their representative archetypes, worked in familiar ways but with all new faces. The writing is excellent, the dialogue entertaining. I loved it! Will be one I reread a few times, as I have with GRRM, Melanie Rawn, Jacqueline Carey... A new favorite on my shelf.On the book two! I loved this! Rarely do you find a fantasy that has it all. Great character portrayals, a fantastic and original story and so beautifully written that I didn't want to miss one word! I love this world, the people and I can't wait to read what comes next. I read this fabulous book again because I want to experience the whole series together. After months of waiting for the 3rd book to come out, its finally here...i loved this 1st book even more the second time through and felt like i was coming home to good friends.what an incredible world and I'm in awe of Melissa mcphails talent! I highly recommend this series

Good but too many minor characters and it is far from "Game of Thrones" quality.
