About book CelebraTORI: Unleashing Your Inner Party Planner To Entertain Friends And Family (2012)
i have been watching the tv show "craft wars" on tlc. so i got a yen to check out host tori spelling's recent book on party planning. that is how i came across this book.this book reminded me of the "pioneer woman" cookbook. because it is a book by a "celebrity" about their "hobby" that they love. plus it includes writings by the author, in her own voice & family snapshots so we can see into "their world". that said, i did not like this book as much as the "pioneer woman cooks". although this book was somewhat interesting... i liked seeing some of the ideas she implemented in her "over the top" parties... make no mistake: tori spelling is no martha stewart. and she is no hemmingway. eek. even though i did sort of like seeing some of her party themes & hearing about some of her ideas... i really didn't like the writing in the book. i think she wrote in the same style she would talk. but it wasn't very "professional". if you love tori spelling, you are probably going to eat up all her little anecdotes & her advice & her life. me, not so much.this wasn't the worst thing i've ever read... but it might have made the list of worst things i've ever read. it was quick & i really didn't invest much time in it. even if you just want to look at her photos & get ideas for party planning... you could browse this book like you would a magazine & you wouldn't even have to read it! maybe that is how it would be best enjoyed. ;) I love the cover of this book, especially the colors. I really liked some of the ideas in this book and the fact that Tori Spelling likes to try to do things in an affordable way. I LOVED the pictures in this book. I was actually reading this while I was planning a birthday party for someone close to me. I haven't thrown a party in a while, so I was glad that I picked this book up on a whim. My loved one had a great time at their party and so did the guests. I am not the most social person, but I think I may plan more parties in the future. I enjoyed this book almost as much as I enjoyed watching Tori throw parties on her reality show.
