About book Catwoman Tomo 2: La Noche De Los Búhos (2012)
I haven't read a DC trade in awhile. I went back when they first revamped Catwoman, something like 10+ years ago, and was collecting issues, and I liked it. Catwoman is a cool character with a lot to add to the DC universe. The New 52 is a cool concept, but I wish that there was more simplicity to the reboot. There were 3 stories going on in vol 2, and while I'm sure that if I read on, things would change or be more detailed on am explanation, I'm just not sure I have it in me to continue on. I think, while I still love a superhero comic, I'll stick with the weird graphic novels that are just crazy, like Chew. That's some good storytelling there. Again, time will tell. The art in this volume is a good bit better than the art in volume 1. Part of that is due to the fact that Guillem March doesn't make as many close up shots of Catwoman where she has either a really weird look on her face or her eyes are looking all kinds of crazy. The other part of why the art is better is that March didn't draw every issue in the volume. In my opinion, Adriana Melo is a much better artist than March. Granted, at times, some of her full body shots don't look as good. They look to have a more anime/manga influence than comic artist influence which is something that I'm not crazy about in my comics. What is funny though, is the fact that I said the complete opposite of March in my review of Catwoman volume 1. His strongest point is how well his characters look when they are shown full bodied from a distance. If these 2 artists would collaborate on not just single issues, but share art on the same page, they could turn out some truly amazing comics. Each one's strength is the other's weakness. Melo could do the close ups and March could handle the full body shots, but alas, that is not the way this volume is done. If it were, then it would be getting 5 stars for art. As it is, it is getting 3 1/2 stars.Now, on to the writing. In my review for volume 1, I stated that I had never read an ongoing Catwoman monthly and didn't know how the character would hold up being the central figure in a book month in and month out. Judd Winick has found a way to make it work so far. I'm actually interested in her as her own character and not just waiting for the next inevitable Batman appearance. I liked the inclusion of Dollhouse from Detective Comics volume 1, but I am disappointed with how her appearance was changed for Catwoman. That poor redesign was another knock on the art side, but I digress. I've only read a couple of the Night of the Owls crossover issues that were forced onto all of the Bat family titles. The overall story of the one contained in this volume was decent for a cross-title tie-in even if the ending was a little bit of a let down. It was well set up though and fit to the story already being told. A lot of times company wide tie-ins are just shoe horned into the middle of an ongoing storyline whether it actually fits or not. I think it speaks volumes as to how good of a writer Winick is to fit this one into his own story so well. Story gets 4 1/2 stars as well.I'm actually looking forward to volume 3 more than I was to volume 2, but I know a different writer takes up the story with the next volume. That makes me a little iffy, but only a little. Anyway I'll be waiting for my sister to buy volume 3 before I get to read it. Still not so impressed that I just have to own it.

Meh. It didn't tickle my fancy, but it was a better than some other DC titles I've read of late.
