Již v prvním díle jste mohli vidět, jak velký má autorka talent na popis charakterů, na dramatický opis krajiny, jenž čtenáře nenudí a na akční scény, jež zvládá přímo bravurně. Řekla bych, že tento díl je ze všech nejbrutálnější a celkově nejodvážnější. Yet for all the violence, heartbreak and tragedy in this story, there are strong elements of love, friendship and deliverance.In the refugee camp the children are optimistic about a future that could see them reunited with their parents especially the mechanically gifted Alex Grieder who writes a letter explaining the events that led up to the survivors of Monument 14 being housed in Vancouver. Loyal and affectionate, he's suddenly devastated by the news that Dean is going with Astrid, Jake and Niko to save Josie. Dean Grieder is resourceful, brave, understanding and supportive but at times jealous and competitive with Jake when it comes to his girlfriend Astrid. Pregnant with the government wanting to test the growth of her unborn child, Astrid tends to be emotionally unpredictable and high-strung. Although in love with Dean, she continually seeks out the father of her child who's a drunk with attitude problems. Unreliable Jake Simonsen wants to protect Astrid for selfish reasons, but with a strong dose of reality will pursue his own desire.Among the core characters are also antagonists like Ezekiel Venger, a malicious and heartless guard, a bully who has taken an adverse dislike to Josie and Mario, but all the personalities add fire, drama and power to this tantalizing and chilling tale.I thoroughly enjoyed " Monument 14: The Savage Drift" with a climax that was unexpected yet richly satisfying. I recommend it to all those that like a strong blend of dystopian adventure and romance.

A disappointing end to an engaging trilogy. Needed less boy angst, more Josie and Astrid.
