The Book of Animal Ignorance: Everything YOu think You KNow Is Wrong. Random House LLC 256 pages A fairly entertaining read. The book reviews a collection of animal species or broader group (mostly familiar beasties) and drops a heap of trivia about them. The entries covering a group like frogs or beetles feels a bit disjointed (Species A does this. Species B does this) but does show the diversity of a taxon. Not surprisingly, a lot of the information focuses on courtship and reproduction. In general, most of the information in each entry I knew, but that added some credibility to a book with a uneasy lack of references (the authors admit to this and insist they were trying to create a casual, friendly sort of book). However, practically each entry contained at least one snippet of which I was unaware. I tried to pace myself with the book in hopes to let this new knowledge sink in. Dang it, when you're not studying it for school not all those factoids cement. Not satisfied, I was compelled to create a word document. Now I will never forget that the binturong of southern Asia produces a musk that smells like buttered popcorn or that the giraffe's 3 ft long tail tuft is among longest animal hairs.

This book had a lot of fun facts. We're not the only amazing creatures out there.

I'm not sure if this book enhances or detracts from my enjoyment of the TV show.
