About book Caçando Eichmann (2010)

Until I read this book, I didn't realize how little I knew about the post-WWII era. I'd assumed that surely every civilized person wanted to bring Nazi war criminals to justice. On the contrary, Eichmann's discovery/capture/trial was a risky long-shot, a venture whose success transformed the world's attitude towards ex-Nazis. Even though I knew how the story ended, I found myself holding my breath in suspense at various points. A crackling tale that beats most thriller novels though it's found on the non-fiction shelves. It tells the story of the escape from post-war Germany of the loathsome Nazi bureaucrat Adolf Eichmann, who engineered the "Final Solution" which resulted in the deaths of millions of innocents, his flight to and pathetic expat life in Argentina, and the successful hunt by Israel's Mossad and others to find him and bring him to justice. A good book to suggest to anyone who questions the rightness of the Allies' determination to rid the world of Hitler's Aryan super-race, and to anyone who questions the truth of the holocaust. Given Eichmann's sheer ordinariness, it also subliminally poses the troubling question: Could it happen here? The most exciting book I've read this year.
