Cute and light and far more enjoyable than I expected. The author didn't go too far out of her way to create a whole new magic system, as she just added on to an existing one - the "Wiccan 101" information was fairly accurate (except for one quibble I had near the beginning). The mystery was (for me) not of why (which was obvious from near the beginning), but of whom. The only thing I have an issue with is Katie's "all-powerful" magic. As a (somewhat heavy) reader of PNR and UF, some series reach a point where the main character's power reaches stupidly high levels (Anita Blake off the top of my head) and then the character just stagnates (and hence I don't read LKH anymore). Since this is only the first book and a cozy, I hope it's a non-issue.That aside, I am looking forward to picking up the next in the series. An interesting book. The first in a series of I don't yet know how many, this book obviously spends a lot of time building up the characters. I found it took a while to get to the plot and so I wasn't in the "can't put it down" style of reading or anything. I'll probably pick up the next book though and see how it goes, as the story was interesting enough and I'm curious as to what's next in store for Katie.
