Jeffrey Holland is the best devotional speaker among the LDS General Authorities today. So as a collection of individual essays, this book is certainly not disappointing.I had hoped that the book would treat at some length the title topic (solace and recovery). Instead, the real theme is Elder Holland's Apostolic witness. Two thirds of the essays are edited versions of General Conference talks. The rest come from talks delivered in other venues. My favorite part of this book was the early chapters focusing on family. The later chapters with deeper topics were sometimes hard for a (very) tired mom to concentrate on. Many of the talks were re-runs from conference, and I was hoping for a bit more new content. That being said, Elder Holland is still one of my favorite speakers and writers, and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing his "voice" come through the pages.
