I originally rated this barely a three because I was disturbed and confused by the relationship between this childlike man and his lover. But when I reread it I realized that I was using my own biases and that Brier is intelligent enough to make his own decisions and that his lover is not taking advantage of him. Since this book made me thing, it goes up a whole star because that's what the best books do. First off let me say I really love that the author took on the challenge of writing a love story that while may be unconventional to a lot of people is real life for many. Brier was one of the most loveable characters even though at times I do feel she exagerated that "cutsie persona" she clearly wanted him to play he was still inspirational. His lover was one of those rare people that had the abilty to see through the outside and love a person no matter what. This story picks up where the Men in love Reuinion book left off but you don't need to read that one anyone with a brain can pickup on the storyline. Okay here is my grip with the story. first off a story like this needed to be way longer so much was left out, there were to many unanswered questions and the story was left off unfinished in my opinion. I think at times Brier's character was sterotyped so even though he was loveable it got a bit ridiculus. The conflict between Jake and Bram was never settled I found that to be a big part of the story. In my opinion Jake had every right to his legal guardian but the issue was just brushed over. Also in her other stories two characters as in love as the two of them would have been married or had some sort of ceremony why not them? I felt there was this emphasis in the story that people with disabilties are the same as anyone else but in the end she made sure to make it a point say that they are different and no one normal would ever want to be with someone with a disabilty for the long hall. I think this one is completely worth reading though. The story is sweet, funny, and surprisingly the heat factor doesn't disapoint either.
This is my favorite book by this author. Brier overcomes so much and becomes a great person.
