About book Bridges (2011)

Dallas moves from Jersey to a small Texas town in the 3rd grade, and meets Brooklyn. It's hate at first site. It comes to blows a few times, over 10 years. The summer before college they end up working together at a grocery store. This was a free, short story. It was funny, sweet, and a little hot!! I loved these boys. They had a great chemistry, even when they hated each other. I would have paid money for a full length book with these boys. Plotwise this was actually three stars, but the cliches basically ate the third one. This is a cute story that had all the things that I'm really fond of. Thus I decided to try this and hey, it's short. Anyways, Bridges was written OK, though I really hated all the "babe" things. Who calls anyone a babe? The I-love-yous were quite annoying too as well as the overly optimistically romantic "we'll always be together". The things that actually make this a bad fanfiction-like story. The characters are in a way OK, but we don't really get to know Brooklyn enough. The way they are depicted is lacking substance and all those "sun light reflects from his skin" types of writings are so overused that I almost cried out of shame. The sex scene was also lacking as it happened all too quickly not to forget that O'Shea doesn't seem to know enough about the matter. This is common when the writers are female for the obvious reasons. The story in itself is just too short to try to form a longer time span in the boys' lives. It feels lacking like so many other things in the story. For a reader like myself whose read and written M/M fanfiction for a decade this wasn't enough. Meh meh.
