About book Breach Zone (2014)

Breach Zone is enough evidence to tell me that Myke Cole is going to be one of those authors who consistently turn out books that are better than his previous. I liked Control Point, I loved Fortress Frontier, but Breach Zone was on a whole new level of brilliance.Cole's decision to set Breach Zone entirely in Manhattan (and in the sea just outside it), rather than the Source was actually a really cool move, and picturing the city overrun by a huge war between soldiers, Latent and magical creatures was as awesome as the final battle in the Avengers. Perhaps even more.Like the transition from Control Point to Fortress Frontier, Cole has shifted his point of view character once more, which I didn't expect after the very likeable Bookbinder was introduced (don't worry, he's still in there). Cole's talent with character writing is evident here, as he chooses to focus on Harlequin, someone I disliked back when he was first introduced in the series but ended up loving quite quickly in Breach Zone. He pulled the same magic out of his hat by making me more sympathetic with the character Swift, too, who has some minor parts in the story. Any author capable of changing your mind like that is worth a look at in my opinion.Put simply, I loved this book. Cole's Shadow Ops series is constantly rewarding, evolving and exciting. I don't know how many books are planned, but frankly, I couldn't care, so long as Cole keeps releasing books set in this world with his intoxicating blend of action and kick-ass characters. Bring on the next one. Action-packed and fast-paced. When I first read the first installment of this series, Control Point, I was fascinated with the incorporation of magic and how it affected the modern society. This series has a convincing take on what would the people's reactions if supernatural powers really manifested. Also, the character development of several protagonists especially the first one introduced in Control Point has been well developed. Hopefully, there would be more of this series. Looking forward to learn what would happen after major developments regarding the use and perception of magic occurred at the end of this book.
