About book Boy Who Said No, The: An Escape To Freedom (2013)

History is usually so boring. This book makes a historical event and brings it to a very personal level that anyone can related to. I was not even alive when Fidel Castro took over Cuba. It has been something that was a passing curiosity when we would study it in history class. This book gave me a totally different view of the events from the perspective of someone that was in Cuba at the time. The book is well written and you can imagine and even feel the emotions of the characters as they go through their struggles in an ever increasingly difficult situation. I would recommend this book to anyone that is interested in history. It makes the history of the situation come alive with stories that could have actually and probably did happen to many people during this time. I had recently read books about the rise of communism in both Russia and China and was sent this title from Amazon via a recommendation. I am so glad they did. I was completely ignorant of the effect of communism in Cuba to the ordinary citizens. This first hand account gives so much detail into the of the people impacted. It was thrilling and hard to put down. I can't wait to read the rest of Frank`s story. Extremely well written and easy to follow. I would highly recommend!
