I honestly don't know how to describe this book. The plot was so twisted, it was impossible to see where it was going. Often, in a story, you have a good clue who is the bad guy and who is the good guy. This book really didn't give you a clue at all and that gives it a good mark. On the other hand, because the plot twisted and turned so much, it was a little harder for me to fully appreciate because it almost didn't make sense. And yet, I am curious to know how it all turns out and what really happened to Julia and so I will read the sequel. I'd recommend it to others with some qualifying statements. This book was well written and very intriguing. I read the majority of the book in one day because I simply could not put it down. However, in the end, this book disappointed me.Most of the characters were so deep and well developed they leapt off the page. However, he good guy, Edward, fell flat. I didn’t understand him at all and was very confused by some of his actions. There were a few scenes that made my uncomfortable, but they also made sense for the story and did not feel like they had just been thrown in for shock value. I really appreciated how the author didn’t make her none-Christian characters have Christian morals, without being graphic or overly crude.By the end of the book, I really wasn’t interested in wading through two more books to see the outcome of the story. I guess it is mainly because I didn’t feel connected with Julia at the end of the book, and Edward was to flat a hero to really care about. With all this said, I would be willing to try more books by this author in the future.

A modern gothic novel. Plenty of melodrama and twists. Had me gripped!
