Book Fiesta by Pat Mora, illustrated by Rafael Lopez is a colorful, delightful book for all readers whether they speak Spanish or English. Well deserving of the Pura Belpre ward. I truly enjoyed reading this book! Pat Mora has designated a day to celebrate all children from across the globe and reading their favorite books. How cool is this?! Children read in a car, in a submarine, in a train, in a whale (lol), and on airplanes. I love how it ties in culture and tradition. The illustrations by Rafael Lopez are bright, colorful, inviting and fun to look at. I couldn’t have drawn a better rainbow. The alligators actually looked friendly instead of intimidating. I so loved the giraffes in hot air balloons. How creative! I actually could hear music playing while enjoying this festive story. This book talks about celebrating children's day or "El dia de los ninos" as a book fiesta by reading all types of books in different languages, settings, or with different people or animals. Reading is viewed as a big party or celebration in which children can travel on adventures through each book. The text is written in English and Spanish so it can be useful for bilingual students. This story can be used to teach about settings, the book is filled with various interesting setting that can be used when teaching about the endless possibilities of what a setting can look like.
