I’m not sensitive to the advertising hoardings and “The Devil Wears Prada meets Wall Street” does sound a bit cheap to me, but I picked up this book anyway. In the future I should just stick with what my gut tells me. It’s not like I didn’t like this book at all, that’s not true, but as a whole it wasn’t exciting enough – nor was it what the (Dutch) synopsis promises.Prologue excluded the story begins at the moment Alex decides she wants to work on Wall Street, just like her father. A whole chapter is winded on this and that’s irrelevant. In the beginning everything just a bit slow. I forced myself to at least read the first hundred pages because I refused to let the book disappoint me. Finally things start to get more fun, especially at her job. Life besides her job is less interesting. She sort of gets into a relationship with a colleague, which isn’t allowed. It’s very predictable how this will play out. Erin Duffy gives the reader too many signs. And because of that in the end Alex isn’t a heroine, but just a naïve girl you want to kick from cloud nine.The book has its fun moments and is very easy to read. Erin Duffy has worked on Wall Street, so she knows what she’s talking about. I’m not a genius with figures and don’t know the first thing about bonds. When Alex was talking about her work it was all hocus pocus to me. I know this isn’t a textbook, but Erin could’ve explained it lightly. In the end the recession isn’t a big part of the story. Sure, it changes things at work, but it has nothing to do with the choices Alex has to make. DNF at 40%Well hell… this book is not what I signed up for. Alex is not the type of female I thought I would be reading about. I mean, I forgave the overload of info given the bases of the book but I cannot forgive this girls naivety. And her ability to forget or maybe just ignore (I can’t tell which she is doing) the few simple rules her boss gave her to follow.If she would’ve taken all the free advice that’s being thrown at her, even from bitter and angry Kate/Cruella, she wouldn’t have gotten in trouble or her feelings hurt.What really getting under my skin about this girl is that she is getting all moony over a guy she’s not even supposed to be seeing because they work together. Um, did we forget about the no interoffice relationships rule? I’m sure Will hasn’t, and that’s why he only flirts with your dumb ass when no one else is around.When Will invited her to his place I said I’d had enough. I just can’t watch this train wreck anymore.
