This book was a mixed bag. Parts of it were quite entertaining. The main plot about the suspicious death of a celebrity socialite was fun and involving - exactly the kind of light mystery I was hoping for. The aspect of some of the characters being body haulers was unusual and added a different twist. I wish they would have gotten into that a little more. Unfortunately, other parts of the story had me contemplating setting it down and not bothering to finish it. That included the beginning, which focused on immature brother Wesley's gambling woes. They could have done away with that whole subplot for all I cared about it. It was also a fairly substantial part of the book. Then there was the whole subplot about Carlotta being chased by 3 guys who are crazy about her. Pardon me while I roll my eyes. Apparently it makes more sense if you've read the first two books in the series, but honestly, I could not figure out the attraction. Nor could I figure out why she was even bothering with 2 of them.Overall, the book was OK, but I do not feel compelled to pick up the next one in the series. I was ready to give up on this series, then I picked this book up from my library paperback share racks. This is a really good book with a strong romance element (no sex), conflicted heroine (three awesome guys all want her), an great ongoing story arc, and a mystery to solve in the here and now. Carlotta can't find Wesley for almost 24 hours. He has gotten himself in deep s--- with a loan shark and the guy wants a pound of flesh. Ex-fiancé, Peter to the rescue, this time. Now Wesley owes Peter big time, $25k big time. Carlotta wants to track down a lead on her missing parents, but Jack won't take her. Coop has a VIP body pickup nearby and Carlotta jumps at Coop's invitation to ride along. Half way there, they discover Wesley has tagged along. Carlotta drops in on the Jack's lead and he is not happy. Coop and Carlotta get down to the buff, but Wesley interrupts. The dead VIP is Kiki whose death is ruled natural causes, even though she is only 21. People try to steal her body and Carlotta doesn't think that it is natural cause, convinces Coop and goes out to solve the murder. Great cast of possible killers and nothing is given away until the end.
