I don't usually read poetry books. But I decided to try one or two of the Goodreads Choice 2014 nominees. From the descriptions this one seemed the least angst filled. I've never been good at reading poems. I could never get the rhythms right, couldn't make sense of the forms or punctuation. This is the first time a poetry book made sense to me. Not that I understood everything or knew exactly what Mary Oliver was trying to say on each page, I just felt I was reading correctly. My favorites are Blueberries, and I'm Not The River. "Well, there's life, and then there's later." More wonderful poetry from Oliver. A few favorites: Blueberries and Crazy Little Love Song. And, an awareness of the Blue Rider Movement 1911-1914. "This is what I have. The dull hangover of waiting, the blush of my heart on the damp grass, the flower-faced moon. A gull broods on the shore where a moment ago there were two. Softly my right hand fondles my left hand as though it were you.”

So lovely - like music or a prayer. "My heart dresses in blackand dances."
