It was okay. It wasn't entirely something I enjoyed, but that's personal preference. I just wasn't a fan of how it flowed and the character interaction. There were parts where it seemed force and then some other part was shoved in there to make it work - but it didn't. I liked the overall idea of the book. I thought it was super interesting and unique. The author did bring something fresh to the table. The unfolding of it was what bothered me. I probably won't read anymore in the series. I have to say I was not sure what to expect with this book! I am very surprised at how much I liked it. This is definitely a first book in a series, which I am fine with. The characters are built up in this book, glimpses in the past through mind reading make the characters complex and more understood. You can tell as events unfold and things change for our vamps, evolution in their thinking starts to change. You can feel the hope and emotion from them as they discover how things can be as opposed to being locked into their ignorance. I loved the ending and the emotion that came with it. I am very excited to read the next one. Oh and one more thing I almost did not pick up this book due solely on the cover, because I thought it was gonna be the typical adult novel that I try to avoid. There was no romance in this book but the possiblity is there, which excites me. I have to say I have a very soft spot for Philip....

I liked it but it was a bit of a downer. I'm hoping to like the next one more.
