I loved L.L. Muir's Going Back For Romeo. Loved it. I am not one for time travel romance, but she has a way of capturing a poignant, intense moment like no other. In fact, although overall I can name a number of books that I like comprehensively much better, I think no other author can capture an intense, "divine" love moment like her. This is true for this book, as well, in two passages; however, having said that, even though the book is well-written and had moments, I don't think this book can be described as a true romance novel, and thus, I was disappointed; hence, the three stars. This is coming from someone who thought the movie Spy Games was ultimately a true romance, but they weren't dubbing it as such. I don't usually review formula romance novels, especially free/cheap ones. This book, however, was a little bit better than the average formula romance...for the first half, at least. The heroine is a strong woman with very good reasons for her choices, and the hero actually has to compete with his best friend (rare indeed!) at one point for the right court her. Most of the book's flaws (aside from some typos) arise when the story attempts to follow romance conventions instead of bucking them. Unfortunately these attempts (and the typos) increase as the book goes on; otherwise I'd probably have given this 4 stars. There's also a definite lack of "PC" when it comes to the "crime" of the heroine's ex-fiance. All the same, if you're looking for a good Regency with minimal sex, this book is worth checking out.
