"A Short Story Sample of More to Come From Rollins and Cantrell"I'm a big fan of James Rollins, who writes captivating adventure stories similar to Clive Cussler. If you've never read his books, here's a short story, reasonably priced on Amazon Kindle Store to entice you to read the full novel "Innocent Blood," an epic adventure of horror and enlightenment. In this story, 68 year-old Arthur Crane, a retired reporter living in San Francisco, wakes to the strong scent of flowers -- frangipani and honeysuckle. For him, this is terrifying because it only means one thing ... Death! And also, because there is an orchid flower on his pillow. This is the second time in his life he has experienced such symbolism. Years ago, when as a Times of London reporter he was sent to the United States to follow a murder investigation of a British entertainer. At that time there were more such murders in San Francisco where the victims had received an orchid flower, and within 24 hours, another orchid would be found with their dead body, throats slashed. Were the orchid murders a satanic ritual? Was his long lost brother, Christian, involved? Will Arthur live long enough to get all the answers? This story does not leave you hanging, but will inspire you to read the popular "Innocent Blood" novel. James Rollins does a fantastic job in creating adventure, mystery, horror, and myths of ostensibly historical event novels. Highly recommend for an hour of entertaining reading. "Blood Brothers" is atmospheric, yet most of the story is a flashback (including another flashback going further back!), which lowers the stakes considerably, as we know the guy reminiscing is going to make it through whatever goes down. When the end of the story picks up in the present, the resolution is rushed and leaves little impression. Maybe Rollins and Cantrell will put more weight on Christian's character in the next novel. Speaking of, I am amused that a (potentially) major character in a story that pits christian vampires against evil forces is named...Christian.
Do You like book Blood Brothers (2013)?
Great introduction of a new character to help The Trio with their next mission in Innocent Blood.

Very short, but just enough to whet my appetite for the next book in the Sanguinies series!
