I was reluctant to read this book as all these young and not-really working multimillionaire stories not for me. But this turned out to be a very enjoyable read. The hero was older (37) and the author actually showed that the hero worked hard to stay in business. The two opposite-attracts characters were likable with good chemistry; their interactions funny and poignant at the same time. The story was told from both H/h points of view which I liked very much. Such an amazing read!! I would recommend this to anyone who's been wanting a light, relaxing read. I expected there to be more conflict in this book, but there wasn't many. Both of the main characters are so intelligent and reliable, when it comes down to it, that they were able to realize their feelings really fast- with the help of a few friends and relatives, of course. I loved all the characters in this story, except for one person-Billy. Billy is an unreliable, deceptive guy who takes his status as family for granted. He basically feeds off of Eleanor's, Bernie's mom's, generosity. I really hate it when someone takes advantage of others. Gosh, was I so happy when Jeremy, one of the main characters, and Max, one of Bernie's friend close friends, took care of the whole Billy-situation. Jane creates such a beautiful story, slowly weaving Bernie's fate with Jeremy's. Jane really puts emphasis on the whole 'Don't judge a book by its cover' thing with both our main characters. Jeremy may seem like a playboy, but there's a reason behind all that. It was so amazing to see him develop into such a great person, seeing that he had a bad past with his alcoholic father and poverty. Bernie suprised me too, I didn't know she was having so many difficult situations in her life. She seemed so strong and sarcastic at the start of this story (: Since I'm speaking of characters, I must bring Max and Phil and everyone else into the picture. Max is a great friend, who looks after Bernie and is always there for her. Phil is the same thing, but to Jeremy. All the other people are wonderful too- they all add a family feel to the book. Everything, from the characters to the story overall, was beautiful. It's always nice to see the journey of people from one point to another (: overall, black ties and lullabies is a must read for anyone looking for a touching story, who would like a relaxing day with a light read.
