About book Bitter Brew: The Rise And Fall Of Anheuser-Busch And America's Kings Of Beer (2012)

Oh the drama of the Buschs! Seriously, you don't have to like beer to like this book, just sit back and enjoy the inter-generational business drama between a father and his first born son as its repeated more than once through the family. Of course, that's not all! There's also possible killings, multiple lovers, and the high amount of debauchery expected from the rich. And some interesting history behind the popular commercials too. Almost a shame that InBev purchased AB and the Busch dynasty is gone now except for its storied history in St. Louis. Go Cardinals! As a native St. Louisan who has heard many of these stories of the Busch family over the years, it was interesting to read an in depth and chronological version of the facts from a the viewpoint of the author. My daughter started working for the "new" AB Inbev this week - the same week that a sex discrimination suit against the "old" AB commenced. Interesting stuff.I think that many of these stories of men immigrating to the U.S. and going from rags to riches on the backs of laborers, currying favor with politicians, and becoming eccentric with their newfound wealth are fairly common. It also seems to be destiny for those companies who keep it "in the family" to flounder at the hands of incompetent heirs as was the case with AB. It continues to amaze me how people with money and power are able to manipulate the system even avoiding punishment for everything from everyday offenses up to the deaths of two young women. Everything and everyone are expendable. Moral of the story - money does not buy happiness.
