Three stars is the most I can give for a short story, but this story was GREAT! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was enraptured from the very beginning and that never ceased! And, of course, the happily ever after brought a big grin to my face!Allison has been on the run from her abusive ex-husband for four years. She's a corporate trainer and she works short term contracts so she doesn't have to stay in one place very long. Her current gig is working with Logan, owner and CEO of the top security firm in the world. A one night stand between them resulted in a surprise pregnancy. And now her ex-husband has found her and he's not at all happy with her... Their love blossoms as Logan stands in as her personal bodyguard and superhero. Books with characters escaping an abusive (ex-)husband are typically trying for me since I can't relate to the leading lady AT ALL. Too often, authors who star these characters drive me insane because they dwell SO MUCH on her fear, paranoia, and inability to trust when they meet a true hero-quality man. It's a fine line to walk for an author (with me, anyway) between showing all her insecurities and her trials and tribulations, but not DWELLING on it and making the whole story about her PAST relationship instead of her current one. Ms. Avalon found the PERFECT balance with this story. Not once did I want to crawl into the book and bitch slap Allison and tell her to get over it already. That's a major feat, in my opinion (which is what reviews are all about).The editing issues were minor and few and far between. I can see myself rereading this story when I have a free afternoon and nothing new sitting in my queue or on my shelf. I loved the book and devoured it in hours. Allison has been living her life for the past four years always looking over her shoulder waiting for her crazy ex husband to finally find her. She took a job that would give her the monetary freedom to move to Paris where her ex husband has many criminal charges against him. She got involved with her boss Logan before he was her boss and through their passion a baby was created. Logan has known that Allison was special and their passion that one night together proved it but she keeps pushing him away. When he finds out about her past an the baby he only wants to protect her but to her it resembles what her ex did even if the motivation is different. I loved the story development along with the secondary characters. I hope Devon gets her own story later.
