About book Best Of Friends (2005)

Best of Friends is about three different women: Lizzie, Abby and Erin and how through shared grief they come together to help each other through and change their lives for the better.I really enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and had a few different story lines that were all intertwined so your interest was constant throughout. The characters were enjoyable and realistic. I really enjoyed how they all grew throughout the book however I was disappointed and slightly frustrated that Lizzie was unable to stand up to her daughter and everyone else had to for her.The book was a decent length however I don’t feel it dragged at all. I was sad when it ended because I wanted it to keep going! There was some slight sexual content however it was on the line for me.I would like to mention that I feel that the blurb misleads you slightly about the friendship between the women. They aren’t as close as the blurb seems to make out. Plus is the fourth woman the daughter? I was slightly confused.I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely recommend it to those who like chick lit. It wasn’t exactly a lighthearted read however it wasn’t super depressing – it just had some themes where you might need a tissue box handy :)www.readingforthemasses.wordpress.com

I have been finding that sometimes, Cathy Kelly books can be a bit hit and miss. Some of her books I have really struggled to read, as I have found them a bit slow going at the start, then the ending seems rushed. Not this one however! This was a great book, such a great story, and I really liked the lead characters. It is a sad story at times, but that is balanced by happier moments, and the women's friendship really help the story feel more than just sad. I would definitely recommend this one of Cathy's books.

I must say, I give strong credit to the author for such strong use of character development. It's nice to see a novel where people actually resolve their problems and conflict in a reasonable way that's true to their character, and while each character has flaws, they know about their flaws, they understand their flaws, and they genuinely want better for themselves and the people they love. It was nice to read something so wholesome and focused on so many aspects of family life in a way that mak

www.Cathy.Kelly.comBest of Friends is Cathy Kelly’s seventh novel, but the first of hers that I’ve read. It’s the story of three women who are brought together by the demise of another. This story has been described as warm, chatty and delightful, which I partly agree with. However, there are a few major faults with this novel which, in my view, should have been tidied up before being sent to the publishers. Firstly, there are too many ‘fillers’ which make me wonder if they were included to meet the required word length. Also, there are too many ’so&sos said’ and other descriptive words such as ’so&so grumbled’ which could have been left out. This would make the sentences tighter. But leaving technicalities aside, this is a nice saccharine sweet story of three women, their individual lives and how they interact with each other, their different coping styles and how they support each other. What I can’t believe though, is how these women became very close friends after a matter of weeks!

I have to admit, when I picked this book up I really wasn't expecting much, having just read three Elizabeth Noble books. But I was pleasantly surprised to find I quite enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I'd give it 3.5 stars over 3. The storyline, or should I say lines, were interesting as were the characters. There was some real character development which I always like to see, however sometimes the characters did annoy me, like Lizzie's daughter Debra and the way Lizzie was so weak-minded with her. But it was a good read.
