This series is pure pleasure ...and what a fun twist for Bertie and Stuart ...and Ulysses, who becomes a real baby, laughing at the pleasure of seeing his brother after Bertie goes off on a camping trip! Lots of great changes for many characters, including one new one who listens to Penguin Cafe Orchestra! How wonderful to be reminded that I have cassettes from many years ago by this phenomenal group (and know that McCall Smith must be a fan!) I always finish these books feeling magnanimous and full of hope. Reading Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street series always puts me in a happy place. It is so much fun to visit with the delightful residents of the neighborhood and get wrapped up in their lives. This one like the others is full of heart and wonderful observations about human nature. And you can't help but love Bertie, the young man who finally turns 7 in this book, and begins to find some freedom from his overbearing mother.
These characters feel like old friends and it's lovely to catch up with their lives!
