About book Bender (2000)

I actually think this book was not half bad. The relationship that sparks between Camden and Keegan is not the typical romance most books carry. Although predictable, the plot actually manages to hold a good story and effective ending. The ending both ties up the story of this book while leading on the next book of the series which spins off of two characters in this book. It does contain very graphic and descriptive scenes which is pre-warned in the book summary but overall, contains a pretty decent plot with substantial characters. This book manages to successfully focus on the main relationship while simultaneously looking at other relationships around the main characters. I enjoyed seeing Camden and Keegen getting to know each other in that "I can't stand you, but want to be around you" fashion. It was one of the main things that made the book rather enjoyable.Would I recommend the read? Sure.Would I read it more than once? Maybe not. This is the first book I have read by Stacy Borel and I was not disappointed at all. I was looking for something light coming off of my last few reads. The characters were believable and well written. There is Keegan, a sweet girl with an unusual upbringing, looking to break out on her own. She is a struggling student with a much younger sister, Sarah, that she is basically parenting while going to college and working. I really enjoyed the relationship between the two sisters. You can see how much they truly love each other. Then there is Camden, stubborn, sexy Camden.Without giving too much away, Camden & Keegan become roommates. They can't stand each other but then in the midst of a fight, the kiss occurs. I enjoyed watching how their relationship brought out the best in them. Camden became more protective and less angry (though I'm not 100% sure that is the right word). Keegan became more confident and self assured. It was a sweet story about growing up and finding yourself. We are also introduced to Camden's family throughout the book. There are his brothers, Dodger, Wrigley and Turner. I can't wait to find out more about them. I liked that the characters family played such an important part in the development of the story. You can see why they have some of the qualities they do.Overall, it is a sweet story. Of course there were some twists and turns along the way. A scare with Sarah, a confrontation with an ex, meeting the family, dealing with mom...All is wrapped up in a nice happily ever after bow.

I was really disappointed with this book. I tried really hard to like it but it had absolutely no point. It's a harsh reminder of girls that pine after jerks because once or twice they seem like nice guys. The aggressive sex scenes were not hot & sexy they were barbaric. And wouldn't the frat boys girlfriend have been a little upset that her boyfriend slept with someone else? I don't think any woman would let their man sleep with someone else to win a pointless & rewardless challenge. It was just ok, I read the whole thing waiting for a plot twist or something that made sense for the background but it didn't. Oh he kept the fact that he had a sister a secret - just no.
