My oldest daughter started out as a reluctant reader and this was the first series that she latched onto. My youngest daughter just inherited her older sister's collection and is also in love with the series. The Rainbow Magic books are formulaic and a bit saccharine for my tastes but I'm not complaining. There are worse things they could be reading. I myself went through a Sweet Valley phase. I know this will not last forever, better tastes will develop. Considering our options, I am grateful for the series and that it has amassed a great number of titles. Rainbow Fairies was the theme of my daughter's 7th birthday party. I read Belle the Birthday Fairy to help my husband and come up with ideas to create a mini adventure for daughter and her guests: Find the three birthday charms before Jack frost and the Goblins ruin her birthday and birthdays everywhere. There were clues that they had to solve which lead them around the neighborhood to the three charms. There were even encounters with JF and the goblins. A good time was had by all.
