About book Becoming Myself: Embracing God's Dream Of You (2013)

Becoming Myself: Embracing God’s Dream of You has something to offer for every woman. Through her personal struggles and victories, author Stasi Eledredge begins to unpack the complexities of womanhood. Initially she highlights the impact (for better or for worse) that our relationship with our mother has on how we see ourselves as adults. She continues with a comical side about how our hormones affect us at all stages of life. Stasi then goes on to more spiritual matters such as: the crippling effects of fear in our lives and in our Christian walk, our need for healthy friendships, the healing power of forgiveness, and our need/ability in Christ to break out of spiritual bondage. Furthermore, Stasi’s story struck a chord with me when she wrote concerning what it feels like to be “chosen.” We all have a desire to be known, treasured, and chosen - Christ is the only one who can fill those desires to the utmost.Although I do not personally struggle with food addictions as the author has, I was able to connect through other aspects of her story. Throughout the book Stasi shares relevant and often heart-wrenching stories from other women she has ministered to. Undoubtedly these additions to the narrative help drive home the author’s main points and make this book relatable to a larger audience of women. For me the book lulled in a few places and was unable to keep me captivated.Becoming Myself has pointed out a few areas in my life that I need healing--where my thoughts and actions haven’t lined up with God’s plan for me as a woman, a mother, and a wife. Stasi’s story is one of forgiveness, acceptance, redemption and renewal. I give Becoming Myself 3.5 out of 5 stars.**I received this book free as a member of the Family Christian Blogger program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.” I really needed this book at this point in my life. It addresses old wounds that never healed and false beliefs that still plague our thoughts. I can sum up the premise of this book with two excerpts:He will use pain [not cause pain] to expose our false beliefs about our hearts and about his heart. He will use it to prick a place in us that has been wounded here before, to reveal our brokenness so that God can heal it. He will use suffering to reveal Jesus's faithfulness, kindness and unending love for us....if we don't let pain transform us, we will surely transmit it...I look forward to reading the next book.
