This was the first adult book I read (conveniently ignores her browser history of smutty fanfic) and I enjoyed it. Not just for the obvious reasons, but aside from the steamy scenes, there as a whole load of plot, violence and mystery. The biker gang background to all Jake and Dakota interactions definitely heightened the tension. However though the plot serves as a skeleton for the story, the main body is definitely their emotions, which are always set to a guarded, smouldering burn. They're a hot couple no doubt but I have to state that it's Dakota that stole my heart. Excellent strong characterization that could actually hold her own against the alpha male Jake. Scarlett Dupree writes well, and structures her plot well so that there's enough to keep you guessing but not agonizingly slow so that you stop caring. My only complaint would be that she should hire herself a better editor, but nothing that ruined my overall enjoyment of the book. I would definitely recommend this to fans of this genre. Let me say that I had high hopes for this. Many people praised this book and had it on a pedestal and I bought into it. I could not wait to open this latest book and see what the hype was about. Now I am still trying to figure it out. The book was not flowing for me it was complicated and I had to use my imagination to fill in the blanks like mad libs (yes, I am dating myself). Ok so what do I do now? Well I will start with the positives...I loved the characters they were flawed and they had redeeming qualities that I wanted to believe in. They built you up and you wanted something for them but then the author laughed at us and decided her characters needed more pain. Well she delivered thats for sure. The premise had such promise that I couldn't wait to find out what happened next...I am still waiting. What happened to Dakota when she had her head bashed in? What happened at the cabin? I mean where is the writing. I wanted some clear sut answers and yes ok so there was a problem due to POVs but there could have been something. Right? Well anyways, Since I loved the characters my rating will stay and I hope to see some completion from this author because there was such promise and I was totally disappointed.
