My five-year-old son picked this book out from the library this week. My son always has a story to tell, so I thought this was a good choice. How I love the bear in this story! I absolutely loved the artwork in the sweet book. I understand why none of the animals thought they could listen to bear's story, but, at every lost opportunity, I was sad for the bear. My son does often have a story to tell. Sometimes, when he has a story, I may be a bit busy -- driving in traffic, taking care of the animals, making dinner, etc. But I do try to listen every time he has something to say. And he, like the bear, has a story worth hearing. Bear keeps helping all of his friends and they all go home for winter after he helps them..without listening to his story! Spring arrives and everyone wakes up from hibernation or comes back home. Bear still helps his friends by giving some seeds or helping to warm them up. They finally ask Bear to tell them his story, but he can't remember it! His friends suggested some details that would make a great story. A very cool aspect of the book is that the last page is identical to the first, in a similar way that The Song That Never Ends is. This book would be a wonderful autumn read and it could be used in a lesson for colors, autumn objects (leaves), counting and identifying different animals.
