I spent the majority of this book hating the main character! She complained about everything! I mean come on lady...get-up for an adventure! Change isn't always a bad thing! Then I had to remind myself...it's just a book!I loved how this one ended! At the risk of a **SPOILER** I will say...she came around in the end and did the right thing for herself & her kids!I did however LOVE the dog! Hamish is so like my Daisy!A solid 4 stars...it is Carole Matthews so it's a minimum of 3 for me anyway!!! This is the second book I read by Carole Matthews. It was an easy-to-read novel that gave me an insight into life in the countryside, an environment where I can only dream about staying in since I am a city-dweller :( I was quite doubtful in the beginning of the story where Will gets a heart attack and decides to shift the entire family to Scarsby and have a second lease of life. It is a predictable plot. I was also cross with Amy for being a whiner! There were a good many chapters that described Amy's failing to adapt to country life. However, I thought the story had just the right amount of humour. I love the blind chickens and I love it that Laura got drugged by accident instead of Hamish! What an interesting twist. As the story develops, I find myself identifying more and more with Amy. She tries hard to cope without her husband, and I can just imagine the difficulty in having to battle finances and two children's futures! If there were no Guy, she probably would have to return to London in the end. Matthews has a wonderful way of writing and developing her story. I felt sorry for Amy and panicked with her when she couldn't get hold of the au pair Kati (turned out she got the no. wrong), and when Hamish destroyed all the xmas decor and food, I sympathised with Amy. Naughty Hamish has wormed his way into my heart too. The plot had several winding turns, an element I appreciated. I never thought Amy would actually pack up and leave London, but she did. I noted a spelling error nearing the end of the book, Guy Barton, it was supposed to be Guy Burton. But who cares right now! All in all, Carole Matthews is a great artiste and I'm scouring my local library for more of her works! Happy ever after Amy, Guy, Tom, Jessica and Alan!:)
Do You like book Bauernhaus Sucht Frau (2011)?
Gave up; couldn't finish it. Simplistic, unoriginal writing and plot. Not my cup of tea.
