Understand: reading Paul Pope isn't going to be a waste of your time. The art is beautiful, the classic comic influence, especially on the monsters, is great. There's a lot of cool stuff in here. It's probably 3.5 stars. Two reasons it doesn't go higher:1) it just kind of ends, clearly it's just meant to be setup. But it makes for a less satisfying read. I'd rather stuff was left out but we got a complete story.2) I really want it to be larger, at least regular trade paperback size. I feel like we're getting cheated out of art that was clearly made at a larger size. Still, enjoyable for what it was though. This was a delightful fast paced graphic novel. Paul Pope has created a hero for a new age. The story was filled with lots of humor and the action never slows. I actually finished the book in one sitting. I looking forward to the next volume. I think this is a great book for those who are looking to read comics that are not the plain traditional Marvel and DC superhero books. This is a great story and I hope MR. Pope keeps up the quality of this great book.
A decent story though somewhat derivative. Not a big fan of the art style but overall okay.
