This may not be everyone's favorite (and it isn't mine) but I did absolutely enjoy it. I loved how the characters were both in the "I won't invest emotionally, it's just sex" space and then it transmuted for them both and they were like 'wait, this is a relationship?' - and seeing that transformation was great. And they were super hot together, and I like that their relationship is still unique and not necessarily monogamous but still shared but still *satisfying* to them. The secondary drama (with Beach) was a little over the top and not needed ... the strength in this book is their different personalities and world views and degrees of cynicism and how they manage to meld those, not all the 'actiony' stuff. And that was a little melodramatic and probably the one reason I didn't 5 star it. Enjoyable read. Eli first introduced in book one and a focal character in book two still played an important, though minor role in book three. The romantic couple in this installment were rather improbable. First we have the suave Gavin, trust fund baby and dubbed 'gay royalty' by our beloved Eli who falls for an ex-marine turned cop with 5 years till he can retire and pull a pension. It seemed a bit strange to me that while they were the most unlikely couple of the books so far their dialogue and interaction was the most believable. I was very pleased with the intimacy that begins with the 'clothing optional' party is super hot and remains steamy throughout. Its enough to made me want to continue on with the next installment.
