Mama penguin had lots and lots of baby penguins, and she was very busy taking care of her family. Every day of the week, she gave her babies a different lesson so that they would learn to act and do what penguins do. There were no lessons on Sunday because after the week mama penguin was exhausted, taking a nap. She was very proud of her babies, and she taught them well. She taught them to swim, slide, waddle, quack, and fish. She told her babies that soon they will learn the penguin skills and do them as well as she does. One baby told mama penguin that maybe they will do better than their mama penguin! Mama penguin asked her babies that if they do all the penguin activities better than herself, then what will she do? The babies answered that she would be their mama! Melissa Guion created the illustrations using watercolors and pencil, while showing excellence and humor. The artist even added shadows where needed. Thursday was preening practice and the illustrations showed one baby holding a large mirror so that each penguin could see if he did the best peening that they could. In the same picture, one of the penguins was bowing for ane of the girl penguins head. This is a delightful picture, and overall the pictures are easy to read for lower grade level children. Children should be told that this is a pretend story, that actually the father penguins hatch the eggs and care for the babies, keeping them warm. Baby penguins learn their skills by watching other penguins and using their own instincts. I recommend this book. In Baby Penguins Love Their Mama, Mama Penguin has started educating her little penguins with different activities every day, which include swimming lessons, sliding lessons, and waddling lessons. Oh yeah, and let’s not forget the squawking lessons. Have mercy... By the time Sunday arrives, Mama Penguin needs a nap. I wonder how long her little ones let her sleep but probably long enough because she looks refreshed after that. And then Mama Penguin asks her penguins what she’d become once they were all big penguins, a question most of us moms wonder. The answer? Their mama, of course! Just like the first book, this one is full of cute and funny illustrations. My kids and I enjoyed the soft watercolors and the simple way the penguins were drawn without getting in the way of the story.
